Other Parent Involvement Print E-mail

Parents are a very important part of our programs and our school. We encourage you to be involved as much as you can in our school. There are a number of formal and informal ways you might consider:

Bisset Parent Association
Kindergarten Parent Association
Library Helpers
Room Reps
Field trip and Special Activities

Bisset Parent Association and Bisset School Council elections are held annually. The Parent Association plays an important and supportive role in the school. Meetings are held each month and any parent is welcome to attend. Information will be sent out regularly - we need your involvement.

The Bisset Parent Association
The BPA has a wonderful history of working with staff to develop the best possible parent group in the province.

BPA members have been active in making change for reduced class size, better funding and an awareness of quality education. BPA members duties may include advocacy, organizing special lunches, fund raisers (only if needed and within specific guidelines), or bringing in guest speakers. The meetings are usually short and very rarely go past 8:30 p.m. Babysitting is provided.

Emergency Preparedness for Parents & Volunteers
If you are in the school when the following emergencies occur please follow the procedures outlined below:

  • Fire Alarm/Evacuation - when you hear the fire bell ringing, exit the building with the classroom you are closest to and stay with that classroom. Our evacuation location is Mary Hanley School.
  • Security Alert - if you are in the school and you hear the voice command over the PA system "ALERT, ALERT, ALERT" then go to the nearest securable room, secure the room and await further instructions.

School Newsletter
A monthly newsletter, "Chalk Talk" is sent home with the students. Parents are encouraged to keep up to date on current affairs at the school by reading the "Chalk Talk". Individual classroom newsletters are sent home monthly keeping parents well informed of curriculum expectations, field trips and upcoming events.
