Student-Teacher-Parent Conferences (Celebration of Learning) Print E-mail

November Conference Period
The first conference period will be done with all parents. The conferences will provide opportunities to share children's portfolios and time will be provided for parental involvement. Children will be included in these conferences. We feel this is the best way of providing parents with an understanding of what their child is doing in school. There will also be an opportunity to discuss learning goals for your child. We provide a written report for students and parents at conference time.

March Conference Period
This communication will occur any time during the month of March. The format will be similar to the November conference period for all students K-6. Parents will be personally contacted by their child's teacher. Once again, children will be involved in their own learning conference.

Year-End Conferences
Conferences will be scheduled on an on need basis prior to the end of June to discuss student growth throughout the year.

Our hope is that this more flexible approach to reporting student progress will help parents, students, and teachers arrange for the most suitable communication possible and receive quality information about their child's learning.

Student Portfolios
(Assessment for Learning)

The assessment procedure at Bisset School is based on current educational research and involves the student, parent and teacher in sharing the student's growth over time, through the use of a student portfolio. Descriptors are used to grade the student's work. Goal setting is one of the key elements.

The student portfolio is the focal point for each conference. The portfolio begins in Kindergarten and is the record of student growth throughout the child's elementary years. It is an exciting way to demonstrate what each child can do and encourages student and parental participation in their learning program. Our portfolios follow district and provincial assessment policies.
